dr. choi's advice

today i (emily) met with a gentleman named doctor choi for an hour and a half of conversational english. i left feeling motivated and challenged to live a fuller life.

doctor choi is a man who sets resolutions, and follows through with them. he planted a seed inside my heart; a desire to run a marathon in mongolia. despite being in his 40s, doctor choi recently ran a 12-hour marathon in the mountains of mongolia where he describes the scenery as magical; the flowers were colors of the 'cleanest,' purest shades imaginable; grasshoppers and birds were bountiful, and the lakes so translucent you could see the pebbles at the bottom. not another soul was in sight, he described... sure, it meant running up a mountain for six hours, but he really made me want to train. mongolia was just one of four marathons this doctor has run; the others having been in boston, berlin, and hawaii.

doctor choi has a philosophy he lives by, which i wanted to share with you. his philosophy is the secret to a life free of dementia, he claims. :)

1. Do one good thing a day
2. Meet 10 people a day
3. Write 100 words a day
4. Read 1,000 words a day
5. Walk or run 10,000 steps a day.

if we follow these five rules, our lives will be full and our minds healthy, he insists.

i'm willing to try it. how about you?

Oh, great, Em!

In 18 months I've never heard his 5 steps spelt out so succintly but they make perfect sense. I'm so glad it was enjoyable.

P.S. I'll run with you in Mongolia! New shoes and all. :)

Hey girl!
I dig everything except the running 10,000 steps in a day, it seems a bit extreme compared to the other 4 rules... and I'd certainly have trouble with the meeting the 10 people in a day, since I work @ home ... and reading the 1000 words, that'd be hard too...k, now I'm just getting depressed, I think I may have to start small =)
Running a marathon is a crazy goal but good, Jay's Dad and Kee ran the Hawaii one this last Dec. and they're going to try to do the San Fran. one in Aug., if you need any training tips, I'm sure I can get them to share
.... here's to dreams that come into reality(cheers)
