new year resolutions
some believe resolutions to be silly and unnecessary; i view them as reminders to step on, to keep growing, maturing and becoming the woman of God i was created to be.
all of this is attained by looking beyond ourselves... i recently painted this picture of a person striving through sadness to see the beautiful flower that stems from sorrow. this person's shadow is in yellow, representing the holy character God is developing in us.
i find it so hard to sit still. so one of my new year resolutions is to sit more, to reflect and let the voice of God speak.
another resolution? to not give into my fears. my friend sacha has really challenged me to do everything that frightens me, in order to live free of fear. thank you sister.
in short, i resolve to let holiness be my guide, and to leave myself behind. please keep me accountable in these things. love em.

hey sweet friend,
may the Lord make you very sensitive to His spirit and voice this year. What a beautiful resolution--most of our resolutions are centered around "doing" things, but what a grand thought--listening more! Perhaps if we take more time to listen, we will be more effective in our doing. I know that I often rush around "busying" (i think i just made that word up;)) myself, that after all of the energy wasted, I haven't accomplished much!
Thanks for that great reminder.
love you sister,
Melanie
Hi Em!
I like this painting, it looks different than alot of the paintings you've done, I think you are entering a different stage in your creative =)
It's cool -- your resolution for listening -- at church today, the pastor was telling us about some artist in San Diego, who made this "Listening Room" It was a completely sound proof room that was totally black when you closed the door. And people would go in and just sit and 'listen' (and hear or see nothing, obviously) and then emerge in about 4 hours and observe life and just paint, and it caused people to see sooo much more, and observe everything like they were seeing it and experiencing things for the first time...interesting experiment. But I think it shows that we can become so acustom to having stimulus around, all over, that we become deaf and blind to the more important heart things, like just 'listening' for and to God.
I'll pray for you too, that you would grow and experience what you're heart desires, and what you need to, to continue to grow into the beautiful woman God's destined you to be.
Love you! A.
Ahh..Em...
You rock sista! Together we can have no Fear! I love facing challenges with you! I always have so much fun!
I too, made a resolution that has been such a blessing to keep. i decided to read my Bible and pray more everyday. i realized how much i neglected God this past year by not eating His word. But I think I was inspired to make this resolution as you were stating yours, cause usually, I do find resolutions lip service. But so far so good. I hope you can keep me accountable. i will try to keep you accountable by taking long road trips to places of solace or maybe find a cool spot to meditate...
Anyways take care and Great painting!!
Love,
Sacha
Beautiful painting Emily - encapsulates so well the reality of sorrow, yet also the new grace that can spring forth through God's comfort / equipping. I definitely like the style!
Loving you every bit,
Pa
I always have a hard time with New Years resolutions as well. They really are the silliest things, and only last about 2 weeks. I've already broken mine at least 5 times! So I'm no longer calling mine a resolution, but I do have a goal to reach. Rob and I are going to work together to keep a cleaner house, which is a big project for us. And we also want to do daily devotions and prayer together. So, I'm hoping that we can create better habits, but that will take time!
ps. Grandma's birthday went really well and she really enjoyed the things you two had to say. It made her feel really special to get something all the way from Korea!
