christmas in chiang mai
we're doing our utmost to forget that tomorrow is our favourite holiday of the year... to block out memories of stuffing and turkey, family and laughter, stockings and candles, and simply focus on the gifts of this very moment. however, it's hard. there's something so lovely, so warm about christmas. and for all of you experiencing it, we pray it's a very merry one.
as for us, we're going trekking :) we've arrived in chiang mai... a huge yet strangely town-like city in the north of thailand. today was spent shopping in the sprawling, inexpensive markets, and being entertained by a live monkey show :)
what with it being the flower festival, commemorating the king's 60th year of reign, the city is packed with visitors from all across the world... so tomorrow we're escaping into northern thailand on a two-day trekking trip.
highlights of the thailand trip so far? our snorkelling trip in ko lanta... the waters were clear to the bottom, and we saw fish of every colour... we are now officially addicted to ariel's 'whole new world'. after snorkeling we picnicked on a secluded beach... we were served rice and curry by the thai, and then lounged around in talcom-powder sand.
we've met so many funky folks from all walks of life; in Krabi (on the way to the airport, two days ago) we took a spontaneous boat trip (in one of thailand's long-tailed boats) with some newly-made friends down the river to visit a local cave (where we rock climbed) and then to a fishing farm (where we held all kinds of fish, including a blow fish and a 'block' fish)...
sorry for the randomness of this blog. i am very sleepy. we will write again after the trek. supposedly it includes a bamboo rafting trip, another elephant ride, sleeping overnight in a village, and lots of walking :)
may Christ fill your spirits to overflowing.

Hey you guys!
I can totally relate to the 'forgetting that tomorrow is actually Christmas' feeling. We're (or at least I am) feeing the same way, trying to forget about the warmth of families and stuffing so far away.
yesterday I baked cookies to Dean Martin's Holiday album while looking outside at the 72 degree weather...it's weird, but life is like that I guess. (btw, the house seen on my blog is where we're staying, NOT our apt!! I wish -- this house is like 3500 sq and a cool 850,000$$$ to buy, staying here is OUR Christmas present!) We move into our own place on the 2nd.
I wish you guys the best Christmas ever -- when we were driving Jay's mom told us that God would meet us in the Red Wood forest and give us strength for the rest of our journey - and being there was definetly magnificently holy in a silently naturful way (is that a word?) anyways I pray that you meet God on your trek, in many places and many beautiful faces. God bless you guys! Love, A.
Hope you are having a very Merry Christmas.

XOXO 2 Peter 1:3
